06/01/2012 6:23 AM

Dear All,

I have ordered PCIe Gen.2 VGA Card. Now its been purchased. Kindly help me to verify that it is Gen.2.0 or Gen.1.0 by just seeing the VGA Card. Its make is NVIDIA. Its PCB is green coloured.

Best Regards,

Well even if you could guess from a distance, you would need a picture, or detailed description, but why not just give the model number?

Hold the VGA Card up to your ear. Shake the card. If the sound it makes is "ticka ticka ticka" then it is a GEN.1.0. But if the sound is similar to "ting ting ting" or "sstt sstt sstt" then it is probably a GEN.2.0.

If there is no sound at all, then you are holding the card wrong. Keep trying. If there is still no sound, then you may be standing in a vacuum and have probably expired by now.

I think I'm confused too, but if you had the model number handy, it'd be very easy to tell you all about your VGA Card. I personally also use an NVIDIA card, and know it to be the GTX 460 by Gigabyte, so I'm able to find a plethora of information from the net.

I'd avoid buying PC cards based on their PCB color, but if I had to, green PCB would be my last choice. S.M.

When it came right down to it, I had to make a choice between a red, blue, or green LED Zalman heatsink.

Blue, all day, every day

This model that you have is an old card that is not being produced anymore. Considering when it was manufactured, I would bet it's only 1.0. I'm also making an educated guess that your motherboard has a 1.0 PCIe slot, so a 2.0 would be a waste as far as the slot is concerned, but if you want more GPU power, you should get a newer model card than the one you ordered. Ebay is a great source for used video cards for older systems.
