TI PLC Module 7MT400

06/14/2012 1:58 PM

We are working on a printing press with dead TI PLC. We will be removing it and rewriting all into a current model PLC. I have not located yet any specifications or manual on one of the modules: 7MT400 Parallel Output. If you have one or know a source that will respond in a reasonably short time, please help. Thanks.

Thanks for the link, HiTekRedNek. My web searching showed quite a few sites (spread around the world) where the modules could be purchased and repaired. None I visited had specifications or a manual. I'll call these people after their opening time.

I'm not sure which model of TI you are replacing, but the CTI 2500 series processors will replace the TI 500 and 505 series processors. That 7MT400 Parallel Output should work with the CTI processors if it worked with the TI processors.

Thanks for the suggestion, CMMSDON. Quite a while ago I worked with the old TI 205, 305, 335, 405, etc. processors and I/O. This one predates all those, as far as I know, since it belongs on a 1983 machine. The modules plug into a rack backplane and each one is almost the size of a binder paper notebook, with two sets of terminal blocks on the front. You can find pictures of them from various web sites that sell them (usually used or repaired, but one or two are new/unused). So far, HiTekRedNek has given me abbreviated specifications. Another suggested site has people asking around, but their million or so data sheets do not contain one for mine!

Again, thanks--John M.

What model TI PLC are you working with?I have worked on TI PLC's since the TI 5A (Circa 1970's) and this was the era of discrete components. They were very easy to troubleshoot and repair.Of course, I know that some of the components may no longer be available, having been replaced by surface mount components and component consolidation into LSIC.

The new models are much faster and reliable, and there are many competitive brands to choose from now.If it is an emergency, your old unit may be repairable, but if you are restoring an old press from the trash heap, totally new is the way to go.

I have sent a request to TI for info on your module,,but no reply as of yet.

Stay tuned.

I will be back on site Monday (creeks don't rise, world doesn't end...). Having never seen this critter before, I am still scratching some. The two racks have their cables present but unplugged. The cables run to the other side of the console, where I see them with a fairly large card cage rack that has about 6 cards in its slots. I have not looked further to identify them (yet). Your other posts seem to have had the same level of success as I had.

Thanks--JMM

No luck at TI.

Their response:

"Thank you for contacting Texas Instruments America's Customer Support Center.

Unfortunately, Texas Instruments does not manufacture PLC 7MT400 anymore and there is no documentation on it. It is showing on Google, so you might try to get the manual there.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us."

"Thank You,
Anna Pettit
Texas Instruments

Semiconductor Technical Support"

Looks like we must search the wilderness for this endangered species.
