AC RLC Mesh Analysis

06/20/2012 10:22 AM

Today I've learn a new thing call RLC mesh analysis, but theres something i don't understand. Here is the question:

http://postimage.org/image/kbyq85jwb/

From this circuit, i would have to determine the I1 and I2. By using determinant, i calculated and I1= 3.72<-81.2, I2= 2.44<-70.19 which is totally different from the answers that i get. I have no idea how to verify this.. would you help me?

Solutions from my lecture notes:

No one will solve your problem but we can give you the reference to learn and do it.

Circuit Theory

You may find some others

If you have your circuit in a standard format like jpeg or bmp, you can put it right into your question. You will have to have the image on something you can brouse to find it and then upload it. Most of us are not inclined to chase it down on some other website. Use the little camera icon in the edit box to insert the image.

As the CR4 FAQ states, we do not do homework. However, there is a very critical, additional reason that we cannot help you. You have not explained at all what you do not understand. Do you not understand how to find the determinant of a 2X2 matrix? Do you not understand how to turn this schematic into these matrices? No tutor can help you unless you explain where you are having a problem.

I had to do 5 hours worth of mesh equations for CEU purposes last Friday. At this point I wouldn't help my Mother do one.

But as the others have said, doing your homework for you is not helpful to you.

hey im not asking you to solve my damn problem man.. i just needed someone to verify using their method to check if my answers whether they are correct or not thats all.. another reason is i believe that the answers given by my 'teacher' are wrong.

sorry for my bad english

You want one of us to verify that your teacher is wrong and that you are correct. You provide just the schematic and two scanned sets of equations with no analysis of how the equations were created. You're correct. It's wrong for you to be in this class. Drop out now while you still have your skills undamaged.

Am i annoying or something coz i sense a bit of tension in your sentences. Im sorry if i stepped on anyone's tail. I just dont know what to do, i cant find it on google, so i've just use the formula that the lecturer had gave me. But it turns out, i got a different answer. Is there any other way to find the answer? Ones that more logic? because you're right, i don't even know how she arrive to this equation... THX! :)

I now have an idea where your confusion lies. There are other methods, not the least building the circuit and testing. I'm pressed for time so I won't be able to address this now, but I will later.

OK, my first guess of what you do not grasp is that you're unfamiliar with the notations of linear algebra and specifically the application of Cramer's rule to solve for just one variable. I also notice that the schematic diagram does not identify which loop (i2) was used to generate the linear equations. There are actually three loops in this design. To do a mesh analysis on this network you can actually pick any two loops.

Sorry mate. That sounds too much like work.

Have you spoken to your teacher or with your fellow students?

Try Googling "AC circuit mesh analysis" I ran into a nice PDF from Purdue University.
