EMTP Overvoltage Simulation

06/24/2012 11:15 PM

hello everyone,

today is my first day on CR4, i found it after googling. I've had many useful tips for my problem but still looking for how and where to start.

For my project, i have to use simulated internal and external overvoltages data to do some analysis. As many user agree, EMTP is the most suitable software for it. The fact is, i do not know how it works, even the examples included. This might sound strange for someone, but for me it is always like that when I'm in front of a new GUI for a professional software. Hope someone here can help with some guidance and/or examples on overvoltage simulation and how to save sampled wave form to be used for my further work.

Thanks.

following the example on the video "simple circuit" at EMTP page, after drawing the same circuit, when i want to simulate i am getting the following message "error: there in no plot file for this design". i am using the 2.0.2 version. any advice on what can be the causes and how to fix it?

thanks

I'm in over my head here, but you might try opening the file from the tree in the control panel...We have others more qualified to help you here, but it would be better and easier if you could find some local tutor and get some guidance in person...

you said it right, the videos particularly were very helpful. i am working on how to get it working to simulate the examples.. i think it will be ok.

Hello, I have the same problem : "there is no plot file" message. Do you find the solution ? thanks

i can now simulate very well, i can say, one of the reason of the problem was that scopeview was not well installed, you can also try to check if you really save the simulation files, these files can be opened on matlab , Mplot(in EMTP), and also with scopeview.

the only difficuty will be when opening the .mat file on matlab, it is a single file looked as a single matrix by matlab; Actually, that file is composed with all the signals of your simulation.

It is a step by step journey, and i think the examples on the EMTP website and some readings from the same source can be really useful.

I am using the 2.0.2 version, but I don't know how to save the simulation files ? when i run the simulation, there is no message which ask if i want to save...

thanks for your help

You might get more informed help from one of the mailing lists (there are other listsfor ATP-EMTP. These folks are most helpful. More details about the mailing list can be found here.

One of two issues- you may not have your paths set up right- the program is looking in the wrong place for the saved plot file. Or, perhaps, you have not saved the plot file after running the simulation.

I am not an expert on EMTP by any means, but I have used it for exploring things like lightening strikes. I have had good response from the developers of the program when I have run in to problems. You might try their mailing list.
