Sensors Details Required

06/30/2012 9:59 PM

Hello,

I'm working in an china based embedded systems company.. i have been assinged to complete a task to make a wrist band which must consists of multiple functions.. such as heart beat monitoring, temperature monitoring and human fall and collision detection.. all the sensors must be in a small module of wrist watch.. please can any one help me.. I need to know which sensor will be accurate and miniature in size.. i found that 3-axis accelerometer can be used for human fall and collision detection.. but about heart beat and temperature it is unknown..

if anyone have already worked in the medical automation field please help me..

Go to Search GlobalSpec and search for personal protection wrist bands.

can the same finger tip heart beat sensor be used to measure the pulse rate in the wrist..?

Sure. You will have to do something called a modification.

I don't think you are up to the task.

Good luck.

The suggestions you gave could not be used since the question is a "wrist" sensor and the fingertip is not part of the wrist. The optical sensors as far as I know are difficult to use on another place as finger tips.

There are other possibilities as using the pressure which could combine with temperature in ane asy way.

As for the other parameters to sense accelerometers and rate sensors can be used.

I am sorry that some body was upset by my question. The reason is that many ask for help without making any effort in search of information. I am not willing to make the work for other but always ready to give a helping hand even if it requires from me more than looking at the web information. This you had many times the opportunity to notice since my answers are mostly well documented and give even solutions.

yes sir i have searching for the information all the round.. but where ever i search it jus lands again in the fingertip heart beat monitoring.. i just want to know whether the finger tip monitoring technique which uses an LED and a optodiode can also be used to get the pulse information from the wrist.. except that the LED is replaced with IR LED..?

The information provided by the search engines are not enough.. if you can provide me more in detail information then it will be more helpful..

Since i'm a novice and i hav jus started my career in embedded, and facing a big task immediately rises fear.. may be i might ask silly question.. but i want to learn from the my questions..

Basically CR4 gives help for encountered problems after the basic work was done and the OP cannot go further.

You may think what is pulse why it is called so and which parameters (physical) could be measured and used as base for the requested information. Even if you write "silly" you will get help but try first if you do not do this way you will not become indenpendent.

I am sorry I do not have same assignment it would be a play to make it: all is available in miniature designs.

By curiosity what is your position in the company if you get such assignments and have to ask CR4 for help ?

That would be/could be nearly any company. And CR4 is a really good place to get started when someone asks you to do something really "off the wall". Many times, it is all someone really needs to know to get moving, so enough with the sarcasm.

Small companies are notorious for asking their engineers to design something way out of their comfort zone. It is a blessing when one gets to become a specialist but it can quickly become a curse as well.

Lots of us would gladly do this kind of work if there was enough demand for it. Unfortunately a lot of talent goes to waste, except for a forum like CR4. Have a nice day!

Now that you've browbeat the rest of us for nothing, do you have any helpful advice for the OP?

Sorry Lyn, I was offended by Nick Name's question about looking to CR4 for help.

Sometimes, it just takes the right phrase or term to complete one's search. And many times I see people respond to requests with lectures about using a search engine. Honestly, I have to agree in general most of the time. But language is complex and search engines are not perfect.

Consequently, I am grateful for a place to exchange information. I have received a lot of benefit and I appreciate those, like you, that are willing to give. I like to throw in my two bits when I can, but I rarely have the opportunity to contribute.

I did find some interesting hits by using the search phrase "vital signs sensors on a chip"

No apology necessary. I should have not butted in, anyway.

Too many people who come here are just looking for free advice/knowledge and do not want a "technical discussion", they just want the answer, and they want it now, with examples and free specifications.

Cheers.
