Help Me Out for Modyfing the Frequency Response

07/03/2012 5:11 PM

FREQUENCY Can anyone give me an idea about where to find a program for modifying THE FREQUENCY RESPONSE of a wooden article? I guess you got my question right? Can anyone please help? Thanks: I have a patent. I am looking for a site that can help me to sell the patent for free Thanks.

You modify the frequency response of wood by altering the physical properties of the wood.

Your intentions are not clear. You can't "sell" something, "for free".

How many different patents have you been issued?

Any patent numbers?

ahhh...the intentions are clear!

  1. you have an idea
  2. obtain a patent
  3. don't know how or the finances to implement the idea/patent
  4. want to get someone that has the knowledge/finances to implement idea/patent
  5. you need to advertise or put it 'out there' but don't have the know-how/finances to do so
  6. so you want to get the idea/patent out there for someone else to get the money/profits from your idea at no cost...

Easy....selling something for free.

My goodness, you certainly have a lot of patents.

"...a program for modifying THE FREQUENCY RESPONSE of a wooden article" I may be a bit thick, but can you tell me what this means?

Well, it's like this

Aging wood through accoustical bombardment in a nutshell...Do you have any proof this works?

Ah! Thanks!

That is a pretty cool way to paste a link, I like it.

I had an old violin restored once and one of the things the guy did was hang it in front of his stereo and play it music for weeks at a time. He said it mellowed it out, just like playing it would.

It didn't hurt anything. My ears aren't good enough to know.

I had it done for my son and he went on to Strats, keyboards and drums.

I always thought Violins were really highy strung instruments, if you wanted something mellow I'd go for a Cello......

All the more reason to have it restored properly.

Maybe this method could and would alter the frequency of the illustrated wood article enough that when a teenager attempts to excite the metal strings it would become inaudible to those in close quarters? (ie. The rest of the house?)

I assume it would also work on the "electrical" version of the illustrated device?

I do suppose the device would have to remain inside the box for quite some time for maximum effect, yes?

If so; I know of at least one customer willing to make a purchase.

Here's what seems to be a good program on changing the frequency response of wood. I realize that they may not be in your area, so here is a Google search of other programs.

Re: Help Me Out for Modifying the Frequency Response

Frequency response of a panel can be complex - but in essence the frequency response is a function of mass and stiffness, same as a mass on a spring except that the mass is distributed and the "spring" is two dimensional. If you use terms in a search like "vibrating panel analysis" or "vibration of thin plates or shells" or the like, you might find something.

Except for the fact that wood is more variable, it is just another material like metal or plastic in vibration and frequency response terms (with the appropriate density and elasticity parameters set correctly of course).

Re: Help Me Out for Modifying the Frequency Response

You can change the frequency response by: adding weight to the vibrating end for lower frequencies, or, shortening the wood from the "held" end for higher frequencies.

As for a program: there are lots of tuning apps for instruments on the market like this one:-

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.cohortor.gstrings&hl=en

Do a google search for "open source tuning apps" to find something which you can adapt to your needs.

I suggest you contact:

http://woodscience.oregonstate.edu/

They do R&D on the fast response of wood
materials to shock, etc.
