Automatic Light Sensor

Hi everyone, I am an engineering student in mechatronics costing. I have a question that I have to do a mini project that using photocell sensor, my project name is automatic light sensor, I have a question that what is better with use photocell sensor or else? My project is use sensor to detect motion that can reduce a electricity and switch in automatically when detect motion..can someone help me?? I don`t know how to start the project, and i don`t know much about photocell sensor...email me at
