Bushing CT For Auxiliary Transformers

07/18/2012 8:39 AM

I was wondering if bushing CT is can be used for auxiliary power transformers (for auxiliary power supply in HV substations). What are their disadvantage and advantage? I know that probably the sapce required for bushing CT will increse the transformer size. Have Anybody seen that type of auxiliary transformer?

Sure a bushing CT can be used on an auxiliary transformer, assuming it has bushings large that project enough from the tank wall to mount the CT around. It should not affect the physical size of the transformer - why would you think that? Slip-on bushing CTs have been fitted aftermarket in many places.
