I haven't seen a 6-axis laser cutter/etcher. I take it you need 6-axis to etch on all sides of the beam? How large are the beams?
The only thing I can think of off hand would be replacing the end effector of a welding robot with a laser. Those are extremely reliable, accurate, and available, thanks to the auto industry. This re-fit should certainly be possible, but would require some careful thought on safety, as an error in programming could result in pointing the laser anywhere (the robot would need its own room, I think).
Try contacting suppliers of welding robots, or if you are feeling adventurous, try to find one on the cheap from a closed car plant, buy a laser, and do the re-fit yourself.
Thats a very cool machine you want. I'll try to look into it some more. If you find something, make sure you post it!
Contact Fanuc Robotics or ABB. I would not recommend a try it yourself approach. I have been in the robot industry now 13 yrs. We did a plasma cutting job, and there was a lot of interference from the plasma cutter, causing the robot controller to be, well.. uncontrollable. We had to separate all the equipment to stop all the feed back. Not sure what effect a laser would have on the robot controller.

I have contacted both as well as laser suppliers. As of yet, we still do not have a solid solution. I just figured I was not the first to want/need one of these.
We at REIS ROBOTICS USA, are specialized in developing solutions that are very special and non-standard. We have a huge tool box developed over 30 years in robotics and we have 500 engineers working on process solutions. We develop the controls and the robots ourselfs yet are open in some cases to use third party robotic arms with our controls if needed for the application and not available from our tool box and variety of mechanical hybrid configurations.
I think we can offer a solution, as we have done a similar process for another client.
my e-mail is listed in CR4 .
