DC to AC 12V In, 16.5V 0.5A Out. Need to Build it!

07/29/2012 9:14 PM

Please bear with ME.

I need to make an Inverter from 12v dc input to 16.5v ac (.5 amps) output.

I found a schematic, but not enough power at output (100ma).

Can anyone help me?

Thank you

I gotta ask -- why 16.5 VAC?

Can you link to the schematic? It can probably be modified to increase its amperage.

Conservation of energy (a law of physics) states that you can not get out more than you put in.

If you have 12 volts DC at 100ma then you only have 1.2 watts of power. If you want 16.5 VAC at 0.5 amps, you are going to be about 7 watts shy.

By the way, was that AC a sine wave, square wave, low freq. or high freq?

No, he says the circuit that he found outputs only 100mA. He hasn't told us his max available supply current.

I have 12v 700 amps in. I only want 16.5vac .5 amps 60hz Does that help ? Maybe I need to repost my question. Please think about it . Marshall

How about this to convert from 12VDC to 120 VAC first. Then attach this transformer to the 120 VAC to get closer to the desired 16.5 VAC.

I suppose there are several ways to proceed. What I don't know is what constraints you may have. For instance, must this outvoltage be exactly 16.5 VAC?

Would you prefer to dial it in exactly? Are you trying to do this with parts lying around the house? You know, like some chewing gum, a shoe string, and an old guitar string? How much are you willing to spend?

Let me know if the links help you get close.

See other thread:http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/79668/12vdc-700a-IN-16-5vac-5-a-OUT-Need-To-Build

He's going to experiment with a 555 circuit he found. (Post #26)
