our electrician here ask me how to determine arcing faults? and what is arcing either..

Trun off the lights and look for sparks.

Arcing is caused by current jumping from one conductor to another conductor or to ground.

Or is he asking about it in the context of being required now to use an AFCI, an Arc fault Circuit Interrupter?
