Fossil Fuels - Who Cares

08/24/2012 6:51 PM

Eighty six percent of everything we touch, taste, or hear was made with fossil fuel. Designed, manufactured, distributed, and sold everything. Eighty six percent of everything around us, has been a trade off, of oxygen for carbon just to make steam the oldest use of kinetic energy in our history. Does it look like we realy care?

Of course I care! My family and I own piles of oil and tech stock! Personally in that aspect I would like to see 100% of everything come from the sources we own stock in.

I for one also like the aspects that go with a having a warmer planet too so please quit trying to ruin my life goals and expectations just for your selfish concern to keep things the same.

Do you have a plan, or are you just griping?

Sure why not?

A number of us always find these 'plans to save the world' threads entertaining despite the fact they are rarely ever educational let alone world changing.

Just make sure your facts add up first of course!

BTW whenever one of your 'facts' doesn't add up I burn a big tractor tire and as you stand right now that 86% claim has me temped to role one out the shop and get the torch ready as we speak!

Funny the oil baron, chooses one of the most toxic materials to burn.

2010 25% petroleum 22% coal 22% natural gas all carbon based fuels to produce electricity 8.4 % nuclear and 8% renew ables.

So 69% of our electric is supplied by fossil fuels, now add in all the fossil fuel energy consumed to produce, manufacture, supply, and distribute. That brings in all the trucks ,trains, cars, planes, barges, graters back hoes add it all up its more than 86%.of what we touch taste or see is touched by fossil fuels.

Can you clarify something for me? When we burn coal and oxygen to make steam to turn the turbine to make electricity. My question, are all four of those conversions isolated units heat energy converted to gas/steam by two isolated units the coal/boiler steam to turbine isolated unit number 3 turbine to generator 4.

I am not sure where you got the 86% figure from, do you have a link to a reliable source for this?

This seems like an argument for steam power, which is quite common still as many modern power generation methods use fossil fuel to produce said steam (Nuclear, Geothermal, coal, gas, etc).

Mind you, it could be an argument against steam power and fossil fuels, in which case I am not sure what you are proposing we use, except hydro and geothermal which are about the only viable clean non-fossil fuel using bulk power generation schemes.

Could you please elaborate on your question or statement?
