Chemical Reacton in Electrolyte Cell

08/30/2012 5:56 AM

Hi to all,

I'm an Automotive Engineer.

Currently I'm working in a industry of making automoblie parts

As I've only 1 yr industrial experience i need ur experties to do better job in my industry

Recently i got a project to calculate a Hard chrome plating Time on the piston rod of shock absorber

For this purpose i need to know following things

1-Current density -- Actual Current divided by surface area of piston exposed for plating -this is the right way to calculate?

2-Current Efficency

for the current efficency i need to know what the chemical reaction is going in the Electroplating cell

As for hard chrome plalting we used setup similar electrolytic cell having

anode= Lead metal & Cathode = Mild steel (Base metal for plating)

we used Electroyte solution CrO3 with catalyst H2SO4 and SiF6-2

can u guys tell me chemical reaction is going on at anode & cathode

plus u also suggest me how much amount of catalyst should be used & also suggest best positive radicals for Silicon Hexa fluoride (valency=-2) for the desire chrome plating

For your information

Plating thickness requires 25micron meter in the length of 236mm having a diameter of 21.943~21.973mm

I m looking forward the experties response

Thaking you

Regards

Haris,

You're just a mess.

Did you ever get that "1KW gnerator through which i want to connect a DC motor which transmit the elcetrical power to the axle through the belt or chain mechanism" with no input power to the generator to work????

This was the initial questions i asked when i went for design of hybrid vehicle

But now i already made a hybrid prototype vehicle with a DC motor + ICE & where i used to charge the battery from the alternator.
