Creepage Distance

09/27/2012 12:02 PM

dear all

I have two questions about creepage distance The first is how to become a creepage distance longer than the Arcing distance and the second part of the question is What am forced voltages that follows the path of creepage Distance and not the shortest path which is Arcing distance

I'm not sure I understand your questions.

Arcing distance is generally the distance in which an arc will initiate in air at 1 atmosphere with some moderate temperature with a range of humidity. Creepage is similar except it is the distance between conductors adjacent to some insulating surface.

In the case of creepage distance across some insulator, if I'm not off base, is a function of how easily that "insulator" becomes ionized, thereby creating a conductive path.

Did this answer your questions?

Consider the shape of a ceramic insulator. Why is it shaped like it is?
