Coil Voltage Specification

10/02/2012 9:45 AM

what is the difference between coil voltage 220vac and 440vac of a contactor? if any, what is the difference between construction of coil of 220vac and 440vac of the contactor, since both of the coil have two terminal?

Number of turns.

Question: what is the difference between coil voltage 220vac and 440vac of a contactor?

Answer: 220vac

Question: if any, what is the difference between construction of coil of 220vac and 440vac of the contactor,

Answer: The size of wire/number of turns.

Question: since both of the coil have two terminal?

Answer: Of course they both have 2 terminals. Source and return for AC, plus and minus for DC.

1. The contactor will effectively close with 220 V with a 220 V coil, one with 440 V coil you need 440 V to do the same work. They need two terminals, one for the current to flow in, do the magnetising & return back to the source through the other terminal.

2. Where you are employing 220 V for all your control circuits, you go for all 220 V contactor coils. But you must have a 440 V 3 phase with neutral, 4 wire system

3. With only 440 V 3 phase supply availability, you go for 440 V coils for your contactor.

A 1uH choke also has 2 terminals. As does an electromagnet used for lifting tons of steel. For that matter, so does a 1N4148 signal diode.

I really don't understand your point about the two contactor coils both having "two terminals" .

Indeed, especially since adityaEI has previously indicated he/she is an Electronics and Instrumentation Engineer. Yes he/she may not know, but the information is readily available of the internet with a simple search or in the course text books (under valve control coils for example).

Jesus Christ ! at least he/she is not a professor at his/her university !!

He/she has no excuse, he/she should know better; I remember a lay girl from my younger years who, while working as an operator she got tired of holding small pieces to solder them toghether, so she designed an electromagnet of the correct shape and flux to make the parts stick toghether and ease the soldering task... I heard she was given a fat check for that.

hello the difference between coil voltage 220vac need L1+N AND 440VAC NEED L1+L2

and the better one if you have 2 phase because if you use one phase and the neutral wire lost the coil burn

good chance

The difference between voltages coil 220v ac and 440v ac of a contactor is the number of the turns if they are winded with same size of the wire.for the same construction

The difference between their construction is the size of the wire .
