Low cost urethane prototype tooling

05/21/2007 9:15 PM

I am currently looking for low cost prototype tooling for the LFT (long fiber technology) process. This is an open mold spray process which after being sprayed becomes similiar to compression molding in that the mold is shut and tonnage is added while the urethane system cures. The temperatures that the mold is exposed to is around 275 degrees F the mold does not need to be heated but it is very helpful to curing the material and achieving better surface finishes.

The part that i am looking for tooling is approximately 8ft x 4 ft x by .25" thick (very large flat piece). This piece will need to have texturing on the cavity side of the tool. Any thoughts on low cost tooling which might be able to process this part?

Go to HAASCNC.com , find your closest sales representative, ask him to introduce you to his nearest customer who has a Haas cnc router. This machine has the ability to machine an entire 4ft. x 8ft. sheet of aluminum. The machine is a GR-510 or bigger.

Someone who has this machine can help you. If you don't get help, let me know. I am in North East Pennsylvania and I know my sales rep can locate a machine.
