Ready meal nearly downs a BA flight.

05/22/2007 9:25 AM

It has come to light that a Bitish Airways jumbo jet was nearly brought to earth when a member of the cabin crew re-heated a curry purchased from a high street store.

As the meal was heating it caught fire and exploded the fire was put out and things made safe but not before £20,000 $38,500 of damage had been done BA now say crew members will be banned from taking on board their own food.

They say too many ready meals are bad for you, so cut down on those "TV" dinners.

Is this the most un-usual thing to happen on board an aircraft in the galley.

Do you have a link for this? I'd like to read about it.

I saw this on my Virgin web page. It was a small news item I will see if it can be linked through.

That is very unusual, funny though, I bet the airline worker is asking why he/she bought the off-brand, haha! I bet the workers are dreading having to eat that food they fix the passengers. It could've been a "hungryman" dinner, I looked on the back of those and they are loaded with over 2,160mg of sodium. I think that is 4 times the daily value. Just how does a TV dinner cause $38,500 worth of damage anyway?

That much damage can't be just cosmetic, I'd like to see more................

I'd guess $600 for a new microwave, and $37,900 to park the plane for a day while they installed it...

Well, curry is spicy and hot, so naturally hot curry would start a fire, right?

May be if the crew where forced to eat the food they give to the passengers the food would improve.
