Gin Flipping

When I see such a fine job of engineering through application, I just gotta share.

I agree that this is some elegantly simple engineering. However my suburban and esoteric scientific back ground begs the question of why bother?

I also wanted to know why? One of the Youtube posts indicated that they need to be on end during transport so they won't roll around while going down the highway. I don't know if it is correct but it makes sense.

Perhaps, if we have any gin people here at CR4, they could enlighten us.

Not a gin person. I prefer tequila. I have relatives in Texas that farm a few sections of cotton.

Here's what I've learned. This looks like the John Deere style of module.

They are normally on their side, thus the (proprietary) wrapping continues from the round side up 3 or 4 inches to protect the cotton from absorbing ground moisture.

My guess is that they are grouped and turned only for transport, as bruce suggested. Otherwise, they are left on their side.

Using one of the new module-making pickers would eliminate the need for four to six workers, two to three tractors, one or two module builders, and a boll buggy as part of a cotton harvesting crew.
