What is the role of the Ballast( Choke) in the HPSV Lamp Fixture? What is the role of the Igniator in tne HPSV Lamp? What is the role of the Capacitor in the HPSV Lamp? Can you suggest the type of lighting fixture for 60mtrs hight area lightning what type of fitting is suitable? HPSV or HPMV or Flood Light ect.

I can answer some of your questions. The ballast or starter provides a high voltage to get the lamp started. Once the lamp is started, the voltage drops dramatically to what is called the simmer voltage.

The purpose of the choke or ballast is to provide high starting voltage to strike the lamp, but the operating lamp has very little resistance and would take excessive current so the secondary function of the choke is to limit the current drawn by the lamp circuit.

The high voltage is only produced briefly when the magnetic field in the ballast collapses so during the starting cycle ballast has to switch on and off rapidly to produce this collapsing filed. This is the purpose of the igniter which opens and closes ballast circuit to strike the lamp then switching the ballast in series as a current limiter.

Much more information is required in order to answer you second question, but the brief response is neither, at this height you need to be thinking about metal halide MBIL or similar. It depends on the application.

Re: type of lighting fixture

Without any other information as to the application, a Metal Halide as stated would probably be the best. Its available in 1500W. As to the installation, maintenance and application of this Light Fixture---Due to the Height---a sporting lighting company can give you a good quote. Try www.musco.com
