Generator Speed Governor Changing

01/03/2013 11:20 AM

Hello all

I have tried to change the speed control of a cummins diesel generator set with a new esd5500e speed control unit from governors america corp.but it is not working properly.

Then to identify the problem I connected the 24v DC power directly to the battery (+,-) input on the speed control unit hoping the actuator will move to full position but it didn't move, also measures the output terminal to the actuator and there is no voltage (between terminal A and B).

I change the speed control unit with another new one thinking the previous one is damaged but the same problem happen.

I checked the actuator with direct 24 DC supply and it works properly.

Please advise me how to solve the problem.

Regards

The response you got from Governors America Corp. - Vertically Integrated Engine Control ... was what????????

My first guess would be that they told you to read the operator's manual, trouble shooting guide.

#3 is right: Check the speed sensor setting gap.

Look at this link where you could read the manual and troble shoout.

Follow the instructions to set the sensor gap with the flywheel.

You can download the manual.

Respactd sir.i have a (6MW) Qing Dao Single Extraction Condensing Steam turbine 3000 Rpm.. This turbine control Via Woodward (505E) Controler through Cpc. Cpc inlet pressure is 9.5 bar. And CpC Outlet pressure is (2 Bar TO 6Bar) (4mA TO 20mA)& Valve Postion is (0 To 100) Operated. By Cold test. that ok. (start up of steam turbine) Menualy Turbine Reset & through 505E Reset turbine speed first Se t point is 500rpm 2nd is 1200 rpm. & third set point is 3000rpm. After 1200rpm menuly increas 3000 rpm through pluse oil pressure. Zearo Speed Turbine pluse oil pressue is a 2.94 bar 3000 rpm 4bar pluse oil pressure.shift the electric load 1mw turbine speed decrease 2800rpm and after 10 to 20 rpm sowly slowly increase turbine speed via woodward 505E Controler 2930rpm. Turbine speed menualy increas through pluse oil pressure 3000rpm . Controler is the control speed set point. +-3 rpm.& 2nd step shift the load 2MW. Although it is very hard to really understand your description of the problem, I feel that your problem could be due to the GAIN adjustment on the governor.

If there is any adjustment labelled GAIN, you might need to reduce this gain until the hunting stops.

I still insist that this is only a guess due to the difficulty in understanding all your text.
