I think you are probably talking about getting e-mail alerts to threads you are subscribed to.

To unsubscribe, log in under your name (not Guest), click on your name and click on the button View Subscribed Discussions.

Select the ones you wish to unsubscribe from by checking the boxes next to them and then click unsubscribe.
