Since you asked such an imprecise question, you cannot check any sensor.

Check sensor with generator off.

Check sensor with generator on.

Compare the different readings.

If readings same, sensor bad.

If readings different, sensor good.

Sensor may be good but display is bad.

Sensor may not have a display.

Item sensor measures may really not change with generator running a brief interval.

The OP doesn't even understand that telling us what the sensor measures is important. The OP cannot check any sensor.
