Pin & Sleeve plugs modifications

05/27/2007 11:41 PM

Hello everyone. I'm having a lot of trouble at work with the 440 volts "Pin & Sleeve" plugs we're using. They're weatherproof with a locking nut. Sometimes the male won't fit deep enough in the female for them to lock properly, creating a hazardous situation. The question is: Are there any alternatives that you recommend to try out instead of the locking nut?

Use the 600V rated CSA certified ones for hazardous areas these ones never let go.

crouse, or appleton. also brad harrison makes some too.

By the way these are used in oil refining they are not Cheap. but they never give the problem you are talking about

Any of the plug and socket range that are manufactured to Cee17/BS4343/IEC309 standards should not cause any problems. The manufactureres I have used are Mennekes / Crouse Hinds / ABL Sursom Never had a problem with locking rings or difficult fitting with any of them. Hope this helps

Peter

what brand of plugs/receptacles are you using? Are they matching sets? We do a lot of work in power plants and we end up with a lot of the plugs and every once in a while we get some that wont quite match up.... you can buy parts for almost all of mfr's of plugs /connectors , and if you are having trouble w/them stop using them immediately!!!! the parts are cheap enough and easy enough to get not owrth energizing someone!!!!

Thanks all for your help. We´re currently using Appleton. The p/n for the female is ADR6044, and the male is ACP6044BC. They're are matching sets. The main problem is with the pins, which are damaged quite often for bad connections, because the worker that is plugging it in can't connect it properly. Does anyone have a part number for the pins alone?
