Dear Shiras,

If you look at chemical composition oF EN 8 and A106 , you will see both contain Carbon >0.25 to 0.6 % , This is called Medium carbon steel.

The problem with welding medium carbon steel is that , the carbon in weld pool ( molten pool when welding) can interact with the ferrite (Iron) and form carbide. Carbide is hard and brittle, so it can lead to embrittlement and cracks.

Hence, When welding medium carbon steels use AWS E8018, or E9018 , or E1018 type of welding alloys and you will face no problems. These alloys contain Extra low hydrogen to minimize cracks and small amounts of Cr, Mo, V to combine with the carbon to stop it from making any carbides.

We market an Electrode called Diffusaloy 800ELH , which is appropriate for such a weld.

if you need further details , feel free to contact.

ALL THE BEST
