I have a 98 Chrysler T&C that I had the transmission rebuilt a lil over 2 years ago by a nationwide company I will never go back to. The problem began about 6 months ago when the transmission would whine and squeal shifting between gears. I called company and they said warranty had expired and was basically not their problem. The check engine light would come on so I ran a scanner on it and said faulty solenoid and torque convertor. Knowing the on going problems with the solenoid I figure go ahead and replace it. I removed the old one and the prior company had actually sealed the gasket to the transmission body instead of the part. Anyway I put the new solenoid in and start the van up and it is spewing transmission fluid out of the bottom of the solenoid. I take the solenoid out again and put it back it in so as to hopefully get it to sit better and tighten the bolts and start van up and again spewing out transmission fluid. So my question is simple. Can I use a RTV silicone gasket maker and carefully put on the part (seeing as this gasket does not seem to be available anywhere without buying a new solenoid completely) or am I somehow installing this solenoid wrong - There is 3 pins that should sit in holes on the transmission body but they just don't seem to sit in their right. Question 2 since this solenoid came off of another vehicle do I need to take it to a machine shop and make sure it is level, seeing as it is made out of aluminum. question 3 - Do I just say give up because I have already donated so much money and time into this vehicle? any advice would be greatly appreciated.
