7SJ62 Relay Neumerical Trip Circuit Supervision

03/23/2013 9:07 AM

Hi

I have a problem in our Breaker trip circuit. We are using Siemens 7SJ62 relays for trip circuit supervision. The connections are as per diagram given in the relay manual using two Binary inputs and 52a & 52b Contacts. In this circuit the relay configured with a 19V DC selection(TCS Binary inputs only)The working voltage is 110VDC.

Now once the circuit is powered up we have done trip test in the following sequence.

The sequence of operation done was as follows.

· Close CB

· Push the "CB OFF" Push Button.

· CB tripped.

· Keep the "CB OFF "Push button pressed.

· Closed CB

CB closed and tripped immedietely

Close The CB once again

CB closed but didn't tripped

We tried the same with the connection disconnected from 7SJ62 relay,The circuit works perfectly

I would like to know whether anybody got similar problem and what was the solution?

As the name implies, it is only used for trip circuit supervision.

Aux contacts of TCS relay are not taken in series for trip coil energization.

These aux contacts are only used for annunciation.

No ,I am not talking about close block,What the problem is if the circuit is connected as per the circuit shown in the following link the CB dosen't trip at all for a persisting fault.please refer the figure5./100 in the following link(page15 of 35)

i think you should check the aux contacts of the breaker which are 52a/b

Are they bistable aux contacs?

for the circuit to work, they shouldn't be.

You are using that Siemens for the TCS only..??What do you use for tripping and closing the breaker

Working of the TCS

You can also see the TCS as "trip coil supervision" .....it monitors your trip coil whether it is healthy or not....The positive goes straight to the TCS....the negative for the TCS goes through the trip coil....in that fashion you will be able to see when to "trip coil" is faulty....if the negative does not come through the trip coil (which is faulty then) it must be indicated on the relay with a light

Regards

The 7SJ62 relay used for OC/EF &UV Protections. This relay has provision for TCS also.

Mean while we have figured out what is happening in the circuit. The Trip coil used in the Schneider Master pact breaker is of continuous duty.It can withstand 110V DC continuously. Since it is of continuous duty the voltage drop across the Coil is more while connected Via Binary inputs .The Binary inputs required minimum 38V to sense the CKT .But with this type of trip coil it is getting 12V only across. Since the voltage is below the threshold value it acts as a shorting so that positive extended to the coil. The coil energizes and hold under these conditions .I.e., once the CB trips but coil didn't de energizes through 52A&B contacts since any case Positive is extended to the coil continuously. Due to this while you close the CB again .CB doesn't trip even you push the Trip button unless until the trip coil circuit is reset(I.e. +Ve should be removed and given again).

It is confirmed that with such type of Trip coil(Schneider XFCOM)Trip circuit supervision is not possible
