Windows Updates Not Installing

Are you getting any messages or reasons ?

Code 8024200D.

The windows site has a fixer download that supposedly fixes the updater, but it doesn't work.

Searches for solutions run the gamut, including deleting registry items, which I'm not cool with, unless I know for sure it's the fix.

I haven't had a successful update in a couple of months. I've tried several different ways to fix it, with no luck.

Nope. None of the recommended fixes has worked yet.

Yep. I even have that one.

It looks like there are a few fixes that work for a few people. The official MS status, is that they recognize that it's a problem.

I've tried about every recommendation out there, with no luck.

My computer is running fine, so I'm not too worried. Just one of those nagging issues.

You can't even manually update from MS ?

I would backup my files on an external hard drive....Then disable any 3rd party security systems you might have....then try update....then re-enable security...The security program may be blocking download....

I'll give the manual update a try. I have tried updating with security disabled.

You may need to completely remove any 3rd party security with removal tool(temporarily), these are provided on the companies website..this would include any 3rd party security software that was ever included with system or added later.......be sure to enable windows firewall in the interim and keep web activity at a minimum, then reinstall after update, and scan....

It also may be that a previous version of the update exists on your computer, in which case it would have to be manually removed and the newer version installed, check to see if any numbers of updates attempting to be downloaded match any in your history of updates.....

I found an answer on the win7 forum that looks like it worked, but it required the person to download things, turn over log files to the MS tech....

Basically a long procedure. I'm hoping that MS will come up with something that will just fix it.

Otherwise, when I have time, I guess I'll invest the hours that it takes to get it done.

Do you have an external firewall on your router/switch/modem? If so, it may be blocking a necessary port.

Also, make sure that you have the latest version of the actual updater(s) needed. They may not appear in the critical updates, but are very necessary.

I have personally run into these issues occasionally.
