hi to all

i am an 1st year engineering student and making a microbial fuel cell for a research project.in this thing, ihave to use an PEM NAFION 117,which is too expensive for me,so i am thinking of using agar salt bridge instead of it.

Hey there,

I'm a PhD student into neurosciences and we're doing a lot of patch clamp studies in our lab; we happen to use a 4% Agar salt bridge ourselves for a reference electrode. So, for that we disolve 0.4 g of Agar into 10 ml salt solution(we use normal Ringer solution here) and heat the mixture(we also use magnetic stirring) until it's at its boiling point. With the help of a syringe we get the content into a perfusion tube while the Agar solution is still liquid. After that we cut the tube into the needed pieces which we keep in the same salt solution until they're used. You could also use glass capilar tubes if that makes it suitable for your needs.

Ok, cheers
