Percholation of Carbon Monoxide thru Limestone

04/08/2013 12:10 PM

What reactions would occur if Carbon Monoxide is percolated thru crushed limestone?

How about through quicklime (Calcium Oxide)?

How about carbon dioxide under same conditions?

Thanks in advance for all help.

Carbon monoxide has no reaction with limestone (calcium carbonate) or calcium oxide. Carbon dioxide, on the other hand, is a mildly acidic gas (it is the anhydride of carbonic acid - a weak acid) and therefore reacts with bases such as calcium oxide, to form calcium carbonate. Nice and simple:

CaO + CO2 = CaCO3
