Carpooling Phone App

04/11/2013 9:04 AM

I was told of a phone app that allows a person wanting a lift to enter a destination (the phone knows where they are currently) and private drivers bid to take them there. I would like set it up in Adelaide, Australia in conjunction with a webpage to register participants. Perhaps someone using or developing a system could provide some guidance.

Already in place, Carpool Australia.

Known as Real-time Ridesharing.

I've always thought this was a good idea.

Thanks Doorman

The "Carpool" system has a considerable delay and no South Australian entries.

The link to "Real-time" is useful and I will investigate, I would like to utilise/adapt an existing system if possible. Thanks for that.

I had heard this was being used in a city in the US and taxi companies were fighting it.

Next they will probably have an app for where your 'friend' can pick you up for a lunch or dinner 'date'.

That is so odd.

I've had that song in my head all morning.

[edit] Interesting, this. 8675309 is a prime number. Wonder if that was just happenstance?
