I would argue, that you can have it in steps.

Prefab, modular buildings.

Seal them for hospital standards, if available.

Seal, pressurize keep clean clean with absolute filters

the operating rooms.

With conventional construction you have the vagaries

of the local force.

But, the real question is, how much improvements you

have to have, and how much you really can afford?!?

You might checkout the U.S. Army's mobile modular battlefield hospitals and surgical units.

Search 'Modular Hospitals' on the web. This will give you specialist prefabricated buildings without having to wade through unsuitable prefabricated building.

A lot will depend on your operational needs. Is the hospital to be setup temporarily or permanently?

If temporary, then follow the bread crumbs to the U.S. Army's modular/temporary field hospitals. There are several US DoD Contractors in the US and UK that manufacture them, and they are capable of being set-up within minutes. One outfit in the UK features concrete roof arches...all you have to do is wet it down with water and the tubular arches cure in-situ.

Great Idea! with the frequency of large scale disasters on the, it would be a great benefit to the victims to have on location medical care.. coupled with an offshore hospital ship,it would be a dynamic solution for island communities and tsunami battered Japan. Have you considered a modular approach.? perhaps employ Quansit Huts like a WW II M.A.S.H. unit. triaje, patient bed unit while ICU and Surgery are under construction. connect all with passageways. a mobile desel power unit provides AC. done properly, two days--tops...david

Hi David Thank u for the advice. Do u know any company has the experience n track records to design n prefab n assemble a general hospital with 300/400 inpatient beds. I was told it would cost about 2000 usd per sqm, any idea? Cheers Noel

Here is a very nifty inflatable building that a 3-year old with a blower can assemble. And here is a video showing one of the many civilian-type uses for the building. Many more available to watch on You Tube, but this gives you the gist of the ease and strength of putting one of these up in no time at all.

Some years back, 15 or something like; the U.S. Government started selling off a bunch of equipment as surplus and so you can get the M-50 portable hospital and all the stuff our services were using in that cycle. Dig em up! The great thing about the surplus stuff is that you can check to see if the gov has anything left and where, plus you can track the sales of any large lots of units and have a chance at possibly getting them from a surplus wholesale buyer who couldn't resell them for whatever reason. If you go this route, know your prices on these surplus things as sold by the gov before talking money to anyone. Good luck.

U.S. Army surplus. Just type the words in your Google browser line. We have surplus dealers all over the country.
