Varnish formulation

05/31/2007 1:11 AM

Hello everyone!

A question: How should we improve varnish formulation in order to be able to have this varnish coating to perform printing on it? When I say printing, it is referring to thermal transfer printing? Comments....

Hi!

Thank for your reply. If I am not wrong, varnish coating acts as an protective layer of ink printing. At the same time, my varnish should be able to perform thermal transfer printing onto my varnish layer. THT is actually those ribbon that thermally transfer onto the varnish layer. Right now, I have problem on finding a suitable varnish which enable to perform THT printing onto it. I am facing tackiness of my varnish formulation. Is there any recommendation that you can advise me? Generally I do not know that the varnish comprises of oligomer, monomer and photoinitiator. Hope to recieve your advise soon...

Regards

Are you confusing Over-print varnish (as in polyurethanes) with painting varnish? Look for various diazo printing inks. Newsprint, book print, etc use over-print varnish. It's a huge market.

Hi!

I am not sure whether I am confuse, however based on my understanding, varnish is one that protect my ink layer. Because the varnish must be able to perform thermal transfer printing of ribbon. So right now, I am facing tackiness of my varnish layer, most probably there is error in my formulation. Generally varnish comprises of monomer, oligomer and photoinitiator. How should I ensure myself to get the correct formulation which is able to perform THT printing? Hope to receive your reply soon. Thanks

I dont know that type.

I know only the vanish is printed by oil printer and large advertisement with ink sprayer.

they are hardly burned. so it cannt be used for heating copy unless you lay on a special layer.

its out of my depth, do you show me a pictuer of it?

I thnk I can find it in china market.

Hi Cardio07

I've one formulation on this (see below), however for varnish formulation, I do know that my varnish formulation must achieve one criteria which is thermal heat transfer printing. But I have difficulty on doing this as I do not know where to start from. Just to ask you if you have ever done varnish formulation before?

Formulation made up of adhesion promoter, photoinitiator, lower viscosity monomer, slipping agent.

need your advise
