Alternator Resistance

is there a practical way of calculating a say 380 volt 1000 kva sychronous alternator phase winding resistance for calculating a short circuit current magnitude?

No, especially since it's the various generator reactances that are important in AC calculations. You might peruse this tech-note to see if what you're really looking for is presented in it.
