Someone correct me if im wrong, but i beleive the difference is stranded cable is twisted, and multi strand is more than one wire within a sheath. ? yes? no?

Stranded cable generally means round concentric-stranded consisting of single wires stranded around a central core, which may be either a single or multiple wires (1, 7, 19, etc.). Concentric-stranding follows a specific rule; that is, each successive layer of a multiple layer cable contains 6 more strands than the preceding layer. Concentric-stranded multiple wire cores are stranded in the same manner. The lay (direction of the helix) of each layer of a multiple layer cable normally reverses. For example, 1st layer RH (right hand lay direction), 2nd LH, 3rd RH and so on. That is done for electrical reasons.

Multiple-stranded cable is similar except instead of consisting of individual wires, multiple strands of smaller wires are used. A typical designation for this type of cable is 7 x 19 meaning that the conductor consists of 7 concentric-stranded cables, each of which contains 19 individual strands. This is normally done to increase the flexibility of the conductor (welding cable, for example).

There are many types of stranding, as well other concentric-stranded wire cross-sections (concentric TW, for example, made with wire that has a trapezoidal cross-section). Other common strandings include rope lay, compact round, segmented and sector.
