Good luck...This is actually a dentist chair and the company went out of business a long, long time ago....Unless you have unlimited time and resources to repair it, I would start looking for a replacement...

Not enough counter- gravity reaction force. It might or might not work better in the mountains. Is the check engine light on? You might try a thicker oil or replace the seals.

You get a good answer from me O_^

But for the OP, it can be the main piston, the pump piston, the release valve.

Does it leak oil on the floor? I'm assuming this thing looks like a hydraulic jack. If the main piston seal leaks you will have oil leaking externally, if the pump, it depends where the leak is if you will see it. And if the release valve, you won't have a visible leak of oil.

As Lyn say's there's a group dedicated to these chairs. But if your a good mechanic, you can take it apart and determine where the problem is. I would suspect the valve has a damage seat in it. But I'm guessing.

Yep. Sounds like a leak.

If you don't care about keeping it all original, just remember, all it is, is a jack. You can even replace the guts with a remote control setup.

Hydraulic system, low pressure at that.

Seal leak, here, there, anywhere?

With hydraulic fluid, both the leak and the need for maintenance ought to be plain.

Most likely a worn out or cracked rubber O-ring.

If not the release valve leaking, It could be the non return valve not re'seating properly.

The pump mechanism will have to be pulled apart and check for damage to the seat or rubbish in the oil which has been in there for ever??
