Astrovan Back Door Handle

We have a 2001 astro and the handle for the back doors broke.Cant quite figure out how to get it out for replacement.Do I need to take the interior panels off?Cant get the doors open.

Do you have the french doors(3) or just the regular side by side...?

service manual...

"You have to have the door open to remove the screws, however the handle is broke and you can't open the door. There is no latch on the inside. The experts on the web recommended drilling out the bolt heads and then releasing the catch from the back.

I got my big screwdriver and angled it into the remainder of the latch handle and push hard until it released. After that it was easy."
