Land Rover Series 3 Petrol Engines

07/10/2013 2:19 PM

Hi lads, I'm in the process of assembling a short engine, but I'm in a bit of a quandary regarding the head gasket. WHen I lay the gasket on the block, there seems to me to be quite a gap around the cylinders. To explain further, on the right side of the block, the edge of the gasket is about 10/12mm away from the edge of the cylinder, so that when the head goes on, there will be aspace between the block and the head where, in my opinion, there will soon build up a deposit of carbon, and possibly cause problems with pre ignition etc. I've contacted the engine supplier and he said it will be OK, but I'm not so sure. What do you guys think.....? Thanks, Norm.

Is the gasket on the correct cylinder bank?

There's only one. It's 4 cylinder.

Is the gasket reversed?

No it isn't reversed..it differs from the classic copper asbestos gasket in that it is made from some composite material....! Norm.

I'd check with these guys, or another LR forum. There's nothing worse than getting something put together, and finding out it's wrong.

When you open the dialog box for reply, click the little green camera, and click on "choose file", this will open your computer files(which should be in pictures), choose your file, then click "submit", and your pic should appear in post...

Found this...Do you have the new bolts?.
