There is no perfect solution, that's why if you try a search you get about 31 million results. Try Symantec, Norton or AVG websites listed from best (in my personal opinion only) to cheapest. Make sure your virus checker matches is suitable for your windows version operating system (32/64 bit) or else you will have more to worry about than just a virus.

Why not use an antivirus program?

The last option is reformatting your hard drive, but you should do a secure reformat to make sure all the data is zeroed out.

Restoring an older version might cure it, but get an antivirus software, too.

Do what the antivirus program does manually, find the virus and delete it and all files it has infected. Alternatively, download an antivirus program and run it instead.
