Hello every one

This is Manvendra, I have two nos of DG made of duetz. I want to run this DG in such a way that the load around 150kva can be transfer to another DG without shut down the system by applying synchronization of DG.Can any one tell me how this thing can be implemented. And give some reference like equipments name and its company name.

Manvendra,

For readers to advise you on this topic please advise following basic information of each DG Set:

1. Rating of DG sets.

2. Type of speed governor and whether governor has adjustable speed droop. Or else both governor have load sharing or equalising lines (this is common on Electronic Governors suitable for load sharing).

3. Type of AVR and whether the AVR has adjustable voltage droop. Or else suitable for cross current connections (this is similar to equalising line on speed governor).

4. Type of controller provided by packager of DG set. It is very common these days that Engine manufacturer have proprietary controllers which does not permit much can be done. But if you refer this to manufacturer of Control Modules for DG Sets (such as Woodward-SEG, DEIF, Deep sea, ComAp etc. etc.), they will be in a position to offer suitable controller out of their standard product line and interface to communicate the Controller with Proprietary Control Module of DG Set Manufacturer of Packager.

Many times, the Proprietary Controller have speed governor and AVR built in the controller. In this case the proprietary controller already fitted on DG Sets shall have built in load sharing function.

Otherwise with above information in 1 to 4 experts can suggest you what next to do.

Regards,

Ramesh Kapur

Hi Manvendra, You can easily find a relay related Gen set synchronization circuits. Refer to Some power Electrical books. This simply can archive by taping the Gen set controller signals from AMF panel. You just need to use few relays to do the synchronize part.

Anyway this synchronization of the Gen set concept now too old. You can archive your requirement by using ATS. (Auto Transfer Switch)

http://www.eaton.com/Eaton/ProductsServices/Electrical/ProductsandServices/Residential/GeneratorsTransferSwitches/ATS/index.htm

If you really want to prevent from power interruption during gen-set change over its better to think about UPS system too.

This all depend on your budget and criticality of your system.
