Grinding Silver Wire Without Putting On Coolant

Hello....need some info

If I were to grind a silver wire (Ag) with purity of 99% with any coolant, would I get burn mark on the silver wire?

heat it up to over 1700 F before you begin to grind

Grinding?

This indicates loss of the metal, recovery of which will be complicated by inclusion with grinding medium.

Can you not deform (flatten and elongate) the wire instead?

Your thread question, "with any coolant".

Depends on the feed rate and the heat generated by that feed rate.

So, yes, you can grind without coolant.

Another consideration. Cooling is not the only function of the solution. It is also a cutting fluid that aids in the release of ground material from the grinding media.

Silver is pretty soft and you might get a wad of silver thrown at you if the wheel loads up.
