Galvanic Anode Spacing

06/05/2007 11:35 AM

Could anyone help me out with the value of electric permeability of sea water or a related value.

In trying to calculate spacing for a galvanic anode arrangement, I tend to use the inverse square law to estimate the minimum distance for an optimum electric charge of an anode that would provide a protective field around an offshore structure.

I got stuck in evaluation the inverse square law equation. why? finding a value for the electric permeability of sea water to replace the value of electric permeability of space as used in Coulomb contant.

The characteristic you probably need is the electrical conductivity of sea water, which varies with salinity and depth. Once again, Google is our friend. A search on "electrical conductivity of sea water" will result in several fact sheets and particularly useful tables on salinity versus electrical conductivity in a U.K. National Physical Laboratory report by Kaye & Laley.

Good luck with your project.
