Ferrite Permanent Magnets for an IPM Rotor

10/04/2013 10:12 AM

Hello everyone.

My team is designing a BLAC motor with internal permanent magnets. We are using ferrite and Neodymium magnets, though we would prefer ferrite. Our first prototype is not working as we expected. We believe that the flux of the ferrite PM is not enough. On our brainstorming this question raised, have you seen ferrite in an IPM rotor? We do not recall of seeing one in the literature. So I am asking this forum. Is there any IPM with ferrite permanent magnets?

Regards

César

Your question is vague. What is your prototype not doing? Not spinning, not reaching design speed, not taking design load, not providing design torque, drawing too much power, etc., etc.

Why do you place the blame on the magnets, do you know if the drive electronics are working right? Sounds like your team is working on a lab experiment for a machines course, we don't do home/labwork here (though we might help if we see that you're really stumped).

Which is the PM magnetic curve (B-H) you considered in your design ?

Best would be you show a picture with it. When using ferrite PM one should consider the working point at assembly and corresponding working line if the PM was not magnetised in assemblied position.

For Neodym the B-H and the reverse curves are almost the same so this corresction has not to be considered.
