Problem is, it will take years and years to be approved here and then it ill be patented by big pharma and cost $500.00 a dose.

I thought the hot Alzheimers news was to stop eating so much sugar.

There was some video I caught on a news program recently, rats on sugar took about ten times longer to find the landing in a water test.. similar to the study reported here: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/05/120515150938.htm.

Too much sugar ruins your health.....You can list just about any disease that is made worse by poor diet.....This chemical or drug has halted brain cell(neurons) death in mice and stopped the accumulation of plaque associated with these prion related diseases....This is something we have been trying to do for many years....before this no effect has been found from anything, we are close to knowing what causes these awful cruel diseases..imo

I had an arm's length interest (well, more a hazy awareness) in the topic, and I thank you SolarEagle for bringing the topic front and centre ...

While maybe not in context with the story, I grew up under 2 sulphur stacks hooked to a roasting facility in gold extraction. See picture. The high fences would trap the gases when the wind dropped. The sulphuros black ball deposits on my favourite swing would rot holes in your pants in seconds. But the black balls would roll off the leaves of a big old St John bread tree, (carob tree of the legume family). It was the closest living thing to those sulphur stacks inside our backyard, diagonally opposite to the front corner shown below.

OK, back to the topic .... I understand that skeptics will leave developments to the R&D labs, the well dollared pharmacy companies and then the years in the approval phase, but there maybe some keen engineers out there who might have an interest at a molecular level, using maybe a carob based mechanism that can work on the proteins, or at least act as a policeman on the beat, to manage the creation of other life threatening protein manipulations.

If the little attacking sulphuros black balls can roll off the carob leaves, then scaled down to molecule level (in the brain) the damaging mechanism can be 'moved on'. And a bit like the scavenging of space junk, maybe a related brain-based technology is a 'vacuum cleaner like' storage system, parked in a less critical part of the grey matter, to trap and hold the nasties. I am reminded of an old Disney comic where the Beagle Boys were running a gold mine for Scrooge McDuck ... but the ore they were railing out of the underground mine changed from glittering gold ore to 'worthless black coal'. The Beagle Boys were mining the ore and coating it in black tar or something to hide the rich rewards. The same strategy might happen with the brain nasties.

Oh yes ... and it was Donald Duck acting as a Mountie with his 3 nephews who discovered the truth ... or something like that .... fortunately not all the long term memory has gone yet!

Any thoughts?
