Windows Explorer Toolbar

11/22/2013 9:50 AM

I just got a new ( refurbished) computer with Windows 7. When I start Internet Explorer, there is an address bar at the top, but no tool bar.

The Microsoft website says to go to tools, and under that Toolbars to turn them on and off. The address bar does have an icon for tools, but there is no toolbars tab in it's menu.

How do I get to turn on the command and favorites bars?

Hit the left ALT key. That will bring up the "Files Edit View Favorites Tools Help" menu.

Thanks Killowatt0, That did it.

Simple if you know what to do. I couldn't find piece of information anywhere in the book I purchased about Windows 7, or on the Windows website.

Thanks again,

Dave

I forgot to mention: Once you have the menu bar back by using the ALT key, click View>Toolbars>Menu Bar, and it will stay there, even after shutting down IE and restarting it.

I think Microshaft does these things just to piss-off their customers.

I don't think M$ intentionally tries to upset their customers, they are just clueless. It is the same syndrome as the retail store that continually move the locations where items are kept. I can't believe management thinks this is a good thing. I assume management can spin this stupidity into that they are making improvements. Home Depot loses my business if I can't locate a moved item in a reasonable amount of time. I just leave my cart and go to Loews. I do not 'upgrade' M$ products since there will be no added usefull functionality but will create all sorts of headaches. I have learned to configure applications not to use their online help. Bing seems to load only useless garbage for my help inquiries.

Strewth! I wish I had known that several years ago. I thought the "Find on this page" function had been disposed of. Why the hell can't these damned software people leave things alone? Now I see it comes up once, but then vanishes until you press ALT again. Stupid.

Supposing car manufactures kept changing things like this (and without telling us) - perhaps reversing the direction of the steering wheel, changing the positions of the foot pedals, changing the speedometer to read leagues rather than miles, etc.

Every time a new person is put at the helm of a software department, they feel obliged to change everything - and rarely for the better. Yahoo did it recently with their e-mail system and upset millions. Now we have a degraded product. And the reason is ................ ?

Now you have IE working, navigate to here, download and install Firefox and never use IE again.
