Design a modern lightweight wheelchair....which is also effective off road.

My Son is in a chair which is fine on the flat but he likes to visit places of historical interest...just going down a farm track to visit an old church can be tough with the small castor front wheels of a regular chair, so he ends up wheelie-ing half the time.

It still needs to be easy to dissmantle so he could put it in his car.

This type of project will be worthwhile and fullfilling.

Did you ever see "Wallace & Gromit: The Wrong Trousers"? Wallace's idiocy aside, the robotic trousers in the show is actually a very good idea since it will enable paralyzed people to walk like normal people. A Japanese engineer has actually created something similar. You might consider doing the same using hydraulics.

Dear guest,

How about a study on the thread " Water hammer and a new hydropower system " posted on April 23, 2007. If you are interested, I can send you the literature asap, and I would need your email address.

I recommend a piping system for a hydrocarbon liquid or water using a pump. Select the pipe diameter based on the recommended velocity for that fluid and assume the flow rate required to be transmitted.

Study the pressure drop at the system (suction side, delivery side, and pump itself), to include pipes, fittings, flanges, reducers, valves, ... etc.

Calculate the required head of pump to overcome the friction loss. And calculate the power consumption for transporting a cubic meter of fluid.
