iPod 30 Pin Docking Port

01/31/2014 11:51 PM

Ipod touch 4th generation My daughters Ipod wont charge. She said the plug would not go in all the way into her ipod so she just pushed really hard on it a couple of times and it stillwouldnt work. Note to all parents jusk ask what is broken not how it got broken. Problem Ipod 30 pin docking port pins broken off and bent. Question: Can I attach a usb charger cable directly to the 30 pin docking port circuit board. I have never taken a ipod apart before but I just finished a similar project with a samsung smartphone Thanks for any help

If the iPod still charges with a regular charger cable - also 30 pins, then You could perhaps change the male part in the charger. Or buy a new charger.

Easier:

As you propose, a adapter cable to USB would work also. It is IMO easier to just buy a plug charger from 120V/AC to a USB female. They can just be plugged in a regular outlet.

(Same in case you have 220V outlets or a car cigarette lighter plug in the car)

These are very cheap. (see Ebay)

The 30 pin plug on the bottom of the ipod itself has male in/out pins that are broken off. the usb charger and cable are fine. I want to open up the ipod and solder a usb charger cable directly to the 30 pin ports circuit board. I know a ipod or I phone require a special circuir board between the usb and 30 pin plug on the charger cable I already have that part ready to go

Here are some replacement charging ports if you want to go that route: http://www.ebay.com/sch/Replacement-Parts-Tools-/43304/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=ipod+4th+gen+charging+port&rt=nc&LH_PrefLoc=1

Either way, this guide should help you tear down the device to the port. It's for the battery specifically but this will get you where you need to be: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPod+Touch+4th+Generation+Battery+Replacement/9829
