I fixed a split water tank with a hot knife, melting the spilt together again! Or a good glue might work!

Not sure what the tank is made from. It sounds as if it's PP (polypropelene) in which cas it can be heat welded with a rod of PP or maybe just heated up and pushed together as it's a thermoplastic. PP cannot be glued.

How big is the hole? If it's small, you can use epoxy putty to patch it up. If it's big, you'll probably have to use a piece of the same material to cover the hole before sealing it.

Use a small electric soldering iron & a scrap piece of PP & "Solder" / melt the crack or hole together again, don't breathe the fumes given off when doing it, also determine why it cracked or was holed in the first place & attend to that first !! badly mounted, holed by a stone or tree stick driving on a bush track ?? might need remounting or a light metal protection plate mounted under the tank.

Make sure the inside of the tank is completely dry and as warm as possible, (a hair dryer carefully aimed into the filler hole will do the trick). Clean any dirt from around the hole and warm/dry this area too. Apply 2-part epoxy resin to the hole and surrounding area, (fast-setting Aradite is best).

Then the trick is to squeeze the tank while you screw the lid on. When you stop squeezing there will be a slightly lower pressure inside the tank and the resin will be sucked/pushed further into the hole and into the tank.

If you gently warm the repair area the resin will flow better, set more quickly and leave a flatter contour on the outside of the tank.

This method also works for fuel tanks and central heating radiators,(use Metal/epoxy araldite).

Good luck
