Bruderer Pressure Vessel (ASME Stamp)

05/07/2014 1:10 PM

We currently have 30 Bruderer stamping machines. (30, 60 and 75 ton presses.) I was asked to check if the pressure tanks that support the clutch/brake mechanisim have an ASME certificiation stamp.

That being said, These machines were built in Switzerland with a date range of manufacture around 72-86 for the presses we have here.

Does anyone know if there is a comparable stamp the Swiss would stamp on these pressure tanks that ASME would recognize and acknowledge as safe?

Thank you,

From 1972 to 1986, there were a variety of pressure vessel construction codes that the tanks may have been constructed in accordance with.

ASME VIII and BS 5500 were commonly used. Currently Euro countries conform to the PED and EN13445.

This may help:

Contact Bruderer at the address following and ask them for help. Also, you should have a press manual for each press that should have the size of the surge tanks. If the volume of each tank is less than 5 cu. ft. and less than 600psi then a An ASME stamp/ National Board NO. may not be required (check with your local jurisdiction).

If you have vessels that are more than 5 cu ft with pressures of 15 psi or more then you may be in violation and you need to first talk to the company legal council and then a professional engineering firm after you have talked to your lawyer and work to get this straightened out. Your insurance carrier should also be involved.

In some jurisdictions you may be in long term violation resulting in significant penalties. If no one has been hurt usually this type of issue can be worked out with the jurisdiction with few long term repercussions.
