Elephants to Power the Syracuse Zoo

04/12/2005 3:36 PM

Well, not so much the elephants themselves. Their dung! (registration may be required to read the full article.) It turns out that a herd of six elephants produces 1,000 lbs of dung per day, which in turn can be used to produce methane gas for heating and lighting.

Stinky energy

04/13/2005 8:53 AM

One of my friends works forNew Energy Solutions New Energy Solutions and they do a lot of work in this field. As the price of gas skyrockets and technology advances I'm sure that we'll find tons of places that we waste energy.

Personally I think that if you put down a flooring made of dielectrically elastomers under those elephants you could power a good portion of the zoo.
