Compatibility is also
important, as not everyone in the world owns the latest and greatest iPhone 5
or Android/Samsung Galaxy S5, and there will always be new phones coming out
too. The majority of your global audience will have older or less capable
mobile phones.
You want your website targeting the entire world to use minimum
bandwidth and have maximum compatibility. Especially
since half the world is using mobile phones to access the internet. With other technology evolution issues to arrive in the future
(like cloud computing, net neutrality, wristband browsers, and who knows what
else), this goal becomes even more important.
A great way to check if a website is "Truly" Mobile
Friendly is to use the world standard W3 Mobile
Friendly validation tool at http://validator.w3.org/mobile/
When you check most
engineering websites, you will see they
score a 0 (zero) on the W3
mobile validator. Content Management Systems (CMS) like Wordpress definitely
score a zero because of huge hidden source code required and many
incompatibility issues. In fact, most web designers offering to design 'Mobile
Friendly' websites, are not truly mobile friendly, they are just responsive (adjust
content for screen size), so the web designer pitches the unknowing customer
that they are mobile friendly.
My question to you all, besides the Maintenance and Engineering Training website http://bin95.mobi that scores 82% on the W3 Validator, do you know of any other
maintenance or engineering related website that score high on the W3 mobile
validator? Other educational sites for our industry that are Truly Mobile
Friendly?
